Start with these planning notes; your permit office will confirm the required documents:
- The place: property location, known lot information and the jurisdiction to confirm.
- The house: doors, windows and the wall beside the proposed deck.
- The deck: intended footprint, dimensions, height, stairs and how you want to use the space.
- The ground: changes in grade, access and existing features that may affect the layout.
- The open questions: existing structure to assess, connection to the house versus a freestanding design, and measurements still to verify.

Does Hamilton County review every project in the region?
No. The City of Cincinnati has its own Permit Center, and building and zoning review may involve separate offices. Confirm both for your address.
